Kitasato University School of Medicine, Department of Cardiology

Hospital and team introduction

The Department of Cardiology at Kitasato University School of Medicine is dedicated to treating the cardiovascular system through a system unique to Kitasato, where "specialized teams research clinical issues." Since the School's founding in 1970, the department has developed through cooperation with the local community and related medical institutions in the area and has seen an unprecedented number of inpatients, 2,400, grow.

We interviewed four doctors from the Department of Cardiology at Kitasato University School of Medicine about their thoughts on wearing our lab coat.

Purpose and impressions of introducing team lab coats and scrubs

"We started by creating a logo design with the aim of improving unity."

Kitasato University School of Medicine, Department of Cardiology Dr. Eihei Fukaya, clinical lecturer and chief of the department
We had been talking about standardizing the white coats in the medical department for a while, and this was the first time we introduced them to the team, aiming for a sense of unity and teamwork. The reason we chose Classico was because of its design and functionality. We have been using it for a long time, and we thought it was durable. If everyone wears the same white coat, we will stand out even during rounds. The logo embroidery was designed for this purpose, based on the blue used in the university's mark.

After discussing the scrubs with several staff members, we decided on navy, which looks slimming for both men and women. The deciding factors were the comfort of the scrubs and their design, with plenty of pockets, which makes them easy to move in. When visiting the outpatient department, we wear ties and shirts; when moving around, we wear scrubs.
The scrubs also have large embroidery on the back.

Emi Maekawa, assistant professor in the same department
The paramedical staff has well received Classico's lab coats.
They say, "What's with that white coat? It's nice." Previously, we wore ones provided by the hospital, but they were thin and not quite the right shape. These look smart, are stretchy, and are comfortable to wear. The pockets are large and easy to use. The logo, which is close to the Kitasato University color and mark, feels familiar.
When I saw that other departments had matching white coats, I wondered if we didn't do it, so I was happy we could match. It gives a sense of teamwork. The other day, we all wore matching ones to the register navigation.

I wear scrubs even when I'm on duty. I like to wear something that's comfortable and easy to wear for long periods of time. I think the white coat is important because it symbolizes and represents being a doctor.

"When meeting patients, I try to look clean and neat."

Dr. Ryo Kameda, assistant professor in the same department.
When meeting patients, I try to look clean and neat. I'm particular about my white coat, and I've been using Classico's for the past ten years. White coats are a tool for switching between work and play. If they're dirty or uncool, I don't feel good. I was looking for something different, and I bought this one because I liked the stylish features, such as the striped lining and the waist shape. I've been using it ever since.

"I've come to feel that team white coats are one of the characteristics and attractions of our department."

Takumi Oki, professor in the same department
This was my first time wearing a Classico lab coat. The fabric is sturdy and easy to wear. It doesn't wrinkle easily and looks clean, so I like it.

We chose our white coats because they are something patients can see in our profession and look cool. Now that the entire department is wearing the same ones, and the senior doctors are also wearing the same ones, there is a sense of unity. I have come to feel that team white coats are one of our department's distinctive features and attractions.
