Introduction to the hospital and nursing department

The 85th General Meeting and Academic Lecture of the Japanese Society of Clinical Otolaryngology was held at the Keio Plaza Hotel in Shinjuku, Tokyo, for two days: Saturday, June 24, and Sunday, June 25, 2023.

Purpose and impressions of the introduction of the team's lab coats and scrubs

We interviewed the professors of the Department of Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery at Tokyo Medical University about their impressions of the Classico uniforms.

"Scrubs can be used for everyday work, so choosing them as staff uniforms was a great choice."

Professor Kiyoaki Tsukahara, Department of Otolaryngology and Head and Neck Surgery, Tokyo Medical University

The concept of this conference was "Enjoying otolaryngology and head and neck surgery." The event was planned about three years ago, around the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. We thought that the chaos would calm down and we could hold the conference three years later. We finally gathered together after a long time, so we decided on "enjoyment" to convey that we should enjoy learning and interacting to the fullest.

Performance drops when it's hot, so we wanted to be particular about what we wear. Initially, there was a proposal to make polo shirts the recommended wear as part of Cool Biz. The management staff was also talking about making matching polo shirts.

But Dr. Motohashi suggested, "We won't have a chance to wear polo shirts again after the conference, so how about scrubs?" He was right, so we agreed that we should make scrubs that could be used effectively after the conference. We highly recommend making scrubs as staff uniforms, as they can be used for regular work. As a result, they were very cool and a great success in terms of Cool Biz.

We chose "TRO" for the product, which has a cool linen-like texture. We chose a calm fog blue color for the color, considering the patients we would be seeing in the medical treatment afterwards. This design looks good even when worn over a jacket, so it is very useful. The reaction from the conference participants was very good, with comments like "That's nice!" and "Where are those scrubs?"

After the conference, everyone was wearing these scrubs on heavy rotation. Since they liked them that much, we bought more and made them available in various colors. Introducing scrubs at the conference has also increased comfort during everyday work, which was great.

"They look great, have been well-received, and have changed the atmosphere in the department."

Dr. Rei Motohashi, Head of Department and Lecturer, the same department

Professor Tsukahara wanted "people to enjoy themselves in a relaxed atmosphere when hosting the conference." Since presenters and participants usually wear suits at conferences, we decided to recommend Cool Business first.

To ensure that everyone could wear cool business attire without hesitation, we took a photo of the president and the head of the department without a tie and posted it on the conference website as the recommended attire for participants.

The scrubs from the "TRO" series matched these desires. The deciding factors were the cool fabric, moderate formality, and ease of matching with jackets. When I first communicated with Classico, I told them, "I want something like this," and they sent me a sample of TRO. It really matched my image, and I chose the best one.

It has embroidery on both shoulders, with the society logo on the right shoulder and the hospital logo on the left shoulder. I had them make samples of the society logo in three patterns: yellow, blue, and white, and I chose the white one, which was the best.

It was my first time to be in charge of managing a national conference. Still, the conference's reputation, including the scrubs, was very good. They said, "Everyone's wearing matching scrubs makes them stand out and look cool," and "They're motivated." Until now, we had to distinguish between organizers, participants, and companies by tags worn around the neck. However, with everyone wearing scrubs, it's much easier to tell them apart. We even gave a scrubs presentation, which looked better than a suit.

The conference is over, but almost everyone in the department wears scrubs as a uniform. We originally used navy blue scrubs, so the department's color and atmosphere have changed completely. The fabric is cool, and the refreshing blue is perfect for summer, so I really like it.
