During the COVID-19 pandemic, home medical care has attracted more attention than ever. Sapporo Home Medical Clinic Soyokaze, located in a residential area of ​​Sapporo, is one of the clinics that provides home visits.

Dr. Iida Tomoya changed careers from hospital physician to home medical doctor in 2020 and is currently the clinic director. In-home medical care is essential because it focuses on the "lifestyle" of the patient and their family and allows them to live comfortably in the familiar homes and towns they live in. This style is very different from hospital medical care, where the primary purpose is often to cure illness.

"The time has come for the need for home medical care to be widely recognized," says Director Iida. He aims to spread home medical care tailored to each patient while working with multiple professions and the local community.

Purpose and impressions of introducing team lab coats and scrubs

We interviewed a doctor from Sapporo Home Clinic Soyokaze about his thoughts on Classico's lab coats and scrubs.

I started wearing Classico scrubs about ten years ago. It was around the second or third year of my career as a doctor, and I was beginning to see patients as a primary care physician for the first time. As every young doctor thinks, I wanted to look fantastic and wanted something that would help me improve, and that's when I discovered Classico products. I still remember how I felt when I first wore them. The fit and material were great, and I felt like I had stepped up a level or maybe even been given power. I still keep the first ones I bought, even though they no longer fit me. I also like the colors of Classico scrubs. They're elegant and soft, not harsh, and even though they're cool colors, they mysteriously feel warm.

I currently provide in-home medical care, and the clothes worn by doctors there vary significantly. Some doctors wear scrubs like in the hospital; some wear flannel shirts, jeans, and white coats, and some only wear T-shirts and cotton pants. It is all different. When I changed from a hospital to a home doctor, I struggled with what to wear.

I finally settled on wearing a white coat like a jacket or coat. Recently, I've been fond of a navy short coat from Ron Herman, and I always wear it. Just having one coat makes me feel more compact and effortless to use. Sometimes, I wear scrubs and cotton pants underneath this short coat, and sometimes, I wear cotton pants. Although I am a home doctor, there are days when I visit the hospital for a meeting before a patient is discharged. On those days, I wore a white shirt and freely combined clothes according to the time, place, and occasion.

 

Quite a few patients and their families don't want people to know that a medical professional has come to their home. In that situation, this short coat is a white coat that doesn't look like a doctor's, a "white coat that's not a white coat," so I thought, "I have to buy this!" It was just that good. It's also very functional. It's highly water-repellent, so snow washes away, making it easy to use even in Hokkaido, and the pockets are large and convenient.

 

We don't stock scrubs at our clinic, but I hope that as people realize how good they are, more people will naturally start wearing Classico clothing. I've given some office staff some clothes I used to wear, and some staff recently started wearing the PACK series. The PACK series is reasonably priced, so it's a great way to get started for people who want to try out Classico.

 

We also use Classico products as gifts. We sent a white coat to our boss when he became the director of our clinic, and we all bought scrubs to give to a doctor who left our clinic to go to university. We think they are valuable and perfect gifts.

Patients often say, "That's nice, doctor!" We also treat elderly people over 100 years old, and the day after we bought one of our urban tech series white coats, one of them said to us, "It's expensive. It looks nice." I think anyone can tell if something is good and that it resonates with people's hearts.

Clinics are places for medical professionals. No matter how patient-oriented a hospital may be, the structure is such that medical professionals come to where they are. But with home medical care, we visit patients' homes, so we first have to ask to be let into their homes, and then we have to start by asking whether we're allowed to be in the place where the patient is.

So, etiquette is more important than anything else for a home doctor. Etiquette includes clothing and grooming. I want to wear nice white coats and scrubs and dress in a way patients can trust at home.
