Background story

The 75th Japan Society of Obstetrics and Gynecology Academic Conference was held at the Tokyo International Forum for three days, from Friday, May 12th to Sunday, May 14th, 2023.
The professors at the Jikei University School of Medicine introduced Classico scrubs as the staff uniform for the conference.

Purpose and thoughts on introducing lab coats and scrubs

We interviewed professors from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Jikei University School of Medicine about their impressions of Classico products.

"I got a stylish battle uniform suitable for an academic conference."

Jikei University School of Medicine, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology Dr. Jiro Suzuki

This year's conference attracted about 1,000 participants. It's been three years since we last had such a significant event. This year, Jikei was in charge of the conference management, and we discussed what to do for the information exchange meeting. Instead of the usual format of people taking the stage and giving speeches, we decided to make it a lively and fun event. While thinking about what to do, we devised the idea of laying out a red carpet and having people enter like in a fashion show. If we're going to do that, we want to wear nice clothes, so we decided to buy Classico scrubs. At other conferences, it's common for staff T-shirts to be made. I've never seen a case where everyone wears the same scrubs, but since this was a great opportunity, I thought we'd like to do it.

We were initially thinking of something more entertaining than a fashion show, but the professor requested that we make it more elegant. Classico scrubs have a luxurious feel, so we wanted to incorporate them to add a touch of elegance to the fun.

When we told everyone that we would be distributing them as staff uniforms, they were surprised and asked, "We're getting Classico scrubs!?" On the day of the event, I hosted it together with Professor Awano, and I felt no discomfort in wearing them and was able to host the event with confidence. It felt like we had acquired stylish battle gear.

"It was only because of Classico that we were able to create embroidery with attention to even the thickness of the letters."

Jikei University School of Medicine, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology Dr. Sayako Kato

I've wanted to wear Classico scrubs and lab coats since I was a resident. They're so cool, and when I saw my senior doctors wearing them during their hospital training, I thought, "I want to wear them!" Since then, I've been using them since becoming a resident doctor and have many different types. I was in charge of ordering the scrubs and designing the logo embroidery. The logo is a design of a stork carrying Tokyo Tower in its mouth, and the color and thickness of the letters vary depending on the scrub's color. The embroidery on the brown-gray is colorful, but the embroidery on the gray is intentionally monotone. In addition, the letters on the gray are a little thicker than the brown-gray, so they can be seen clearly.

The impression is different between the data sent by the computer and the actual embroidery. Some things could only be known once we embroidered on the same color fabric as the actual product, so we had to make fine adjustments to the color and thickness of the letters. Classico made samples over and over again... I think it wasn't easy, but thanks to them, we were able to create something perfect.

On the day, about 100 of us wore matching scrubs, and even though the venue was so large, we were noticeable wherever we went. It gave me a sense of security, and I also liked that we wore high-quality scrubs instead of T-shirts. We had considered putting the embroidery on the sleeves or back, but that would have been hidden when wearing a white coat, so we decided to put it on the chest, which was a great idea.

The preparations were complicated, but it was a great time, as I've had very few opportunities to talk to new people in recent years.

"It was well received and I got a lot of questions like, 'Where are those scrubs from?'"

Tokyo Jikei University School of Medicine, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology Dr. Awano Sena

When the scrubs were distributed to the venue staff, there were cheers of "So cute!" and "Not only the logo, but also my name is embroidered!" The embroidery this time was colorful and three-dimensional, and even the name was included, so everyone was delighted.

I saw the finished product for the first time on the day, and when I opened it, I was amazed at how intricate the design was....A professor from Osaka University who attended the conference said, "I would like to have photos of us walking around wearing Clasico scrubs and speaking on stage. I want to put them on our website," so I think it was well received.

While hosting, I was sweating quite a bit, but I enjoyed it without worrying about sweat stains. Unlike T-shirts or rough-looking scrubs, it was good that they were not too casual. When I wore them at another event, many participants asked me, "Where are those scrubs from?" I think they are great for events and everyday medical treatment.
