Kashima Hospital
Kashima Hospital
Kashima Hospital, located in Iwaki City, Fukushima Prefecture, was established in 1981 by ten local doctors. It is a medical institution for the local community, offering everything from prevention to home care, with the philosophy of "practicing community medicine and holistic medicine."
As a cooperative facility with Fukushima Medical University, which has established the Department of Community and Family Medicine (ComFaM), the hospital is committed to training general practitioners. To date, the hospital has accepted over ten resident doctors, providing an environment where staff from various professions devote themselves to studying together daily. In cooperation with other hospitals in the prefecture, the hospital aims to provide medical care that is more closely tied to the local community.
Purpose and impressions of the introduction of the team's lab coats and scrubs
We interviewed Dr. Atsushi Ishii, Director of Kashima Hospital, about his thoughts on the Classico lab coats.
"I want to connect everyone with this logo, which represents the mission of ComFaM."

I have been a Community and Family Medicine professor since 2006 when Fukushima Medical University opened the Community and Family Medicine Course. As a member of ComFaM, I provide medical care and education every day. The first opportunity to introduce white coats and scrubs came when we created a uniform with the course logo for members.
We asked course members to submit logo designs, and my proposal was selected. So, I used PowerPoint to finish the design by hand-drawing lines and adding shapes. I will always remember that it was March 10, 2011. We were all excited to meet to discuss building a new facility in Futaba Town, located in the Hamadori area of Fukushima Prefecture. The earthquake occurred the day after we finally completed the logo while staying at an inn.
I am very attached to this logo, and I am very happy that it is being used in this way.
The base is the shape of Fukushima Prefecture, with a design representing ComFaM on top. There is a family in the community, and their hands are raised to represent looking up and rising up. The entire "C" looks like a smiley face.
We also paid particular attention to the colors and the light pink base represents the famous peaches and waterfall cherry blossoms, while the green letters and blue family represent the lush trees and rivers of Fukushima's nature. The embroidery faithfully reproduced the shape and color of the logo, and we are happy with the finished product.
Anyway, we wanted to connect everyone with this logo. When we put it on, we felt a sense of joy as the logo overlapped with the medical care we envisioned... It was a feeling of excitement and excitement. We also took a commemorative photo; wearing something nice makes your heart leap, and it's fun. It also helped us think about what we should do and strengthen our spirit and resolve to continue doing it.
I chose the Classico white coat after being recommended by another doctor. It's good that it's easy to move in, but it also has a moderate tightness. It's not enough to be comfortable to wear; I want it to be different from when I'm relaxing at home. As someone involved in general medicine, I often wear this white coat when I want to cherish my feelings for medical care and patients. I try to wear it to motivate myself and say, "I'm going to do my best today!"
It is said that doctors look 30% better in white coats, but I think that depends entirely on the quality of the coat. Wearing something that makes you look good is essential when switching from private to work. When you wear it, your shape will look beautiful and improve your mood. It also reminds you to be careful about your posture and get in a good mood.
It is relatively close to the body in terms of functionality, but it is finished in a way that allows you to neatly store your PHS and some stationery, which is a necessity.
In our efforts in community medicine, there are times when the so-called traditional doctor-like sense of dignity is essential, but we value a familiar atmosphere that makes it easy for patients to consult us. We hope that our simple but sophisticated uniforms and logo will be an opportunity for people to get to know general practitioners.
Kashima Hospital aims to function not just as a medical institution but as a necessary lifeline for the community. Iwaki City has a low number of doctors working and a rapidly aging population. That's why I'm determined to do everything I can at this hospital.
For example, the ambulance acceptance rate has increased significantly, and a sense of unity has emerged that we can be proud of. About 30 ComFaM members are active throughout the prefecture, so we would like to use the uniform to appeal to more members.
