The Department of Orthopedics at Chiba University School of Medicine
Hospital and team introduction
The Department of Orthopedics at Chiba University School of Medicine is a traditional department that was established in 1954. Orthopedics is a medical department that corrects spinal and joint deformities to support healthy life expectancy. The name orthopedics includes the meaning of correcting function by adjusting the shape.
Therefore, orthopedic surgeons are very conscious of their cleanliness and fashion. The Rheumatology and Hip Joint Group provides total care from diagnosis to treatment of rheumatoid arthritis and is working on innovations in artificial hip and knee joints. This group is popular among young doctors in our department.
The secret to its popularity is the excellent atmosphere. While upholding the tradition of "duty and human feelings," we are pioneering the innovation of "respect for diversity." After the Heisei era, we will continue to live in the Reiwa era, developing our talents with free thinking, helping each other out when necessary, and working as a team to provide better medical care.
Purpose and impressions of introducing team lab coats and scrubs
We interviewed doctors from the Rheumatology and Hip Joint Group of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at Chiba University School of Medicine about their impressions of Classico's lab coats.
"We create a different atmosphere and uniqueness as a medical group."
Assistant Professor, Rheumatology and Hip Joint Group, Orthopedic Surgery, Chiba University, Graduate School of Medicine, Dr. Shigeo Hagiwara
I knew about Classico because I had seen young doctors wearing it several years ago, but this was the first time I wore it when the team was introduced. Until now, each doctor wore their white coat of choice, so this was the first attempt to have all the white coats in this clinical group, and it was also the first time for me to wear something other than the white coat I've always worn at the university
I have never been particular about white coats, but I feel that it is good to give our medical group a different atmosphere and uniqueness, even though everyone wears similar white coats. It provides a sense of cleanliness and familiarity to patients, and with many young doctors starting to wear cool clothes, I think that as a medical group, it is more attractive to wear something cool than to see the senior doctors wearing unfashionable white coats.
Also, wearing something well-made makes each individual want to work hard and not be outdone, so I think it is a positive thing for the individual as well.
My impression after wearing it is that, first of all, the texture of the fabric is different, and it looks very cool. When I put it on, I felt a sense of luxury and cleanliness. As I get older, I am concerned about my figure, but the design is slim-fitting, and I think it can be worn smartly.
For me, a white coat is my battle uniform when I go to work. When I put on my white coat, I feel motivated to do my best. I hope that by switching from the white coat I've been using for many years to the Classico, I will be able to feel more motivated.
"It gives me more confidence and is clearly different from a normal white coat"
Doctor from the same department/group, Junpei Shoda
I first learned about Classico when I was a resident. After becoming a resident, even when I wore the white coat I had worn as a student, I felt a gap between me and the senior doctors, and I wanted to be like them and wear good white coats. That made me look for an excellent white jacket, and I found Classico.
The only white coat I use now is Classico, and I have four, including a coat, jacket, summer coat, and winter coat. Interestingly, although Classico's white coats look similar, each product has its own unique character, such as the fabric and design.
We introduced this to our clinical group because I suggested it to celebrate our graduate school graduation. It is a tradition for graduates to purchase items of their choice when graduating from graduate school, and we chose this as their lab coat. We surveyed to select the lab coat to be used, and after searching for a lab coat that suited everyone, we decided on the "Mens Lab coat:Lightweight jersey coat."
After introducing it, the group members had been wearing thin lab coats until now, and this was their first time wearing a thick, luxurious fabric, so they were delighted from the moment they put it on, saying, "This is nice."
I have been wearing Classico lab coats for a long time, and they make people around me more trustworthy. They are different from regular lab coats.
