A Conversation with Nursing Department Head, Midori Yashima

We unified the uniforms for all nurses and nursing assistants with Classico products. We decided to replace our previous uniforms because they had faded significantly. Since the nursing department is a large group, the head nurses initially chose candidates, saying, 'No matter what we do, we can't choose something that will satisfy everyone.' Our staff ranges from recent university graduates to those over 60 years old, so we tried to choose something that would cause as little dissatisfaction as possible.

After narrowing down the manufacturers to a few companies, the general affairs manager said, 'We have a uniform in collaboration with Gelato Pique.' I knew it was a good one, but initially hesitated, saying, 'I can't ask for something so expensive.' But the general affairs manager said, 'That's fine! Let's express our wishes as much as we can.'

 The nurses had a hard time during the COVID-19 pandemic and have worked hard ever since. So, while we were initially trying to be patient, the head nurses started to feel that this was the right move. We were also concerned about the fading and wrinkles of the previous uniforms, so we decided to buy something of higher quality that would last longer. This is what led to Classico becoming a candidate.

After that, we tried on samples, including models other than the Gelato Pique collaboration, and the fabric felt different from the previous uniforms. It was light and cool, and everyone was surprised, saying, 'Wow, it's completely different!' It was thick but smooth, not hot, and comfortable because it didn't cling to us.

 Previously, we had to choose between comfort and design. If we chose a uniform with a great shape, it would be a bit tight, and we always had to give one of them up. But the head nurses said, 'It fulfills all those requirements.' It can be worn beautifully and comfortably regardless of physique or age, so everyone agreed on Classico.

The pants were the most comfortable part. I was worried the elastic waist would look sloppy compared to a zipper, but it's moderately formal and easy to wear. It suits both formal and casual preferences.

 As for the colors, I initially wanted to specify two. But all four colors of the Gelato Pique collaboration were good, and I couldn't decide. It's also nice to be able to choose your favorite color as a fun part of a difficult job. Since we decided on the product, we wanted to let them choose the color.

We didn't specify the color of the pants, and the men said, 'I'm happy that I can freely combine navy and white.' Everyone seems to like all the colors. The hospital only allows the purchase of three sets per person, so some people even bought other colors at their own expense.

 We purchased these uniforms at the end of the year and started wearing them just after the new year. Everyone came to work with a bright smile. They look more lively and agile. The outpatient nurses' uniforms were particularly wrinkly, but changing to these better uniforms makes a better impression on patients.

Even in the changing room, they often say things like, 'You're wearing the same one today!' or 'That's nice too!' It seems to be a good conversation starter. Nursing is a tough job, but wearing these makes our team feel positive and want to do their best.
