Customer Spotlight: Tokyo Medical University | Classico
When the Japanese Society of Clinical Otolaryngology held its 85th General Meeting at Tokyo's Keio Plaza Hotel in June 2023, the Otolaryngology team from Tokyo Medical University wore Classico professional uniforms. We spoke with them about their experience.
About the Institution
Tokyo Medical University's Otolaryngology Department specializes in ear, nose, throat, and head and neck surgery. Led by Chief Professor Kiyoaki Tsukahara, the department emphasizes patient-centered care and informed consent, recognizing that illness can be an unfamiliar and anxious experience. Founded in 1916, Tokyo Medical University opened its hospital in Nishi Shinjuku in 1931. The university collaborates with the World Health Organization through its Department of Preventive Medicine and Public Health on initiatives related to noncommunicable diseases and mental health.
About the Event
The Japanese Society of Clinical Otolaryngology advances ear, nose, and throat medicine through improvements in clinical practice and regional healthcare initiatives. Incorporated in 2020, it evolved from local otolaryngology associations dating to the 1930s and merged with the Japan Otorhinolaryngology Medical Association to strengthen national collaboration.
The society's annual General Meeting brings clinicians together for continuing education, research presentations, and professional networking.
A Conversation with Dr. Kiyoaki Tsukahara

We chose the Tro product, which has a cool, linen-like texture. We chose the calm fog blue color, considering we would be seeing patients while wearing them afterward. This design looks good even when worn over a jacket, so it is very useful. The reaction from the conference participants was very good, with comments like, "That's nice!" and "Where are those scrubs?"

After the conference, everyone wore these scrubs frequently. Since they liked them that much, we bought more and made them available in various colors. Introducing scrubs at the conference has also increased comfort during everyday work, which was great.

Professor Tsukahara wanted "people to enjoy themselves in a relaxed atmosphere when hosting the conference." Since presenters and participants usually wear suits at conferences, we decided to recommend Cool Biz first.
To ensure that everyone could wear cool business attire without hesitation, we took a photo of the president and the head of the department without a tie and posted it on the conference website as the recommended attire for participants.
The scrubs from the Tro series matched these desires. The deciding factors were the cool fabric, moderate formality, and ease of matching with jackets. When I first communicated with Classico, I told them, "I want something like this," and they sent me a Tro sample. It really matched my image, and I chose the best one.

We had them embroidered on both shoulders, with the society logo on the right and the hospital logo on the left. They created samples of the society logo in three color variations—yellow, blue, and white—and I chose the white one.
It was my first time managing a national conference, but the event's reputation was very good, and that included the scrubs. We heard comments like, "The matching scrubs make everyone stand out and look cool," and "They look so motivated." Until now, we had to distinguish between organizers, participants, and companies by tags worn around the neck. However, with the organizers in scrubs, it was much easier to distinguish them from participants. We even gave a presentation in our scrubs, which looked better than a suit.
The conference is over, but almost everyone in the department wears these scrubs as their uniform. We originally used navy blue scrubs, so the department's color and atmosphere have changed completely. The fabric is cool, and the refreshing blue is perfect for summer, so I really like it.
