About the Institution
Dokkyo Medical University in Mibumachi, Tochigi Prefecture, is known for its extensive training environment. A significant benefit is the ability for trainees to rotate freely between 33 medical departments and affiliated facilities for up to eight months. The hospital also has the highest number of clinical training instructors in the prefecture, with 250 senior doctors.
The theme for clinical training starting in 2024 is 'Totonou Dokkyo.' The program features a balanced cycle: intense clinical experience during the week, followed by reflection and rest on weekends, allowing the mind and body to harmonize—much like a sauna. In this fulfilling environment, many trainees learn alongside their peers each year.
A Conversation with Clinical Training Center Resident, Dr. Tsuboi
We had the opportunity to redesign the scrubs for our resident recruitment event and decided to purchase new teamwear. We wanted a design that would make medical students think, 'I want to join Dokkyo.
When choosing a manufacturer, the consensus was a desire for premium-quality scrubs, and Classico was a leading candidate. While not inexpensive, we believed they would serve as good promotion for the hospital and motivate our team, so the training center approved the choice.
The design features embroidery on the shoulders and back. The row of ginkgo trees in front of the hospital is a beautiful and well-known landmark, so I asked a designer to create a motif resembling a connected ring of ginkgo leaves.
The back features a bear, which is the mascot for 'Totonou Dokkyo,' our clinical training theme for this year. For those who might prefer a more subtle design, we also created a text-only version, offering two options. I am very happy with the finished embroidery. The blue thread is clearly visible against the blue fabric, reflecting the premium quality of the work.
Colleagues at the hospital have commented, 'You've created something interesting.' A university classmate at another institution remarked, 'If the scrubs are that great, I'd want to work at Dokkyo, too.' I have only worn them during online events so far, but I look forward to wearing them frequently to recruit residents and promote Dokkyo.
